Bukwo: The Member of Parliament for Kongasis County in Bukwo District, Hon. Kapyagon Brian Besta, has called for urgent government intervention to extend electricity to key border areas in the county.

Speaking in Parliament today, Kapyagon said Kongasis County is among the areas that remain unconnected to the national electricity grid despite hosting important infrastructure and border points.

He cited the one-stop border point project, which he said cost approximately Shs180 billion, but noted that the facility and surrounding areas still lack electricity.

According to Kapyagon, the absence of electricity is also limiting government’s ability to collect revenue from the border point and other economic activities in the area.

He specifically mentioned Kapnandi and Kaptererwo as areas in urgent need of electricity, arguing that power would improve security, facilitate economic activities and enhance operations at the border.

The legislator further raised concerns over theft and security challenges along the border, urging government to prioritize electrification as part of efforts to secure the area.

Kapyagon said connecting Kongasis County and its border points to the national grid would not only improve the lives of residents but also support trade, revenue collection and the effective operation of government infrastructure.

He called on the relevant government authorities to act urgently to ensure that electricity reaches the affected areas.
