The State Minister for Local Government, Hon. Namere, has assured residents of Kapchorwa that the Ministry of Local Government is ready to construct a new modern market in Kapchorwa Municipality.

The minister was speaking after receiving Hon. Patrick Kitiyo, the Member of Parliament for Kapchorwa Municipality, together with a delegation representing traders affected by the burning of the Kapchorwa Central Market.

Hon. Namere said the delegation was following up on two key issues: compensation for people who lost property in the market fire and progress towards construction of a new market.

She said the Ministry of Local Government has received the necessary approvals and funding for the construction of the new market, following President Yoweri Museveni’s earlier commitment to provide Kapchorwa with a modern storied market.

The minister said the delegation had also been shown evidence confirming that the project is ready to proceed, adding that the ministry will ensure the President’s commitment is fulfilled.

On compensation, Hon. Namere said the matter is already before the Office of the Prime Minister and pledged to continue following it up to ensure affected traders receive the necessary support.

Meanwhile, Hon. Patrick Kitiyo thanked the minister and the Ministry of Local Government for receiving the delegation and providing assurance on the market project.

Kitiyo said the delegation was satisfied with the progress and expressed confidence that the new market would soon be constructed.

He also pledged to return to Parliament and update legislators and the people of Kapchorwa on the progress, noting that he had raised the matter in Parliament.

The delegation included officials and representatives from Kapchorwa Municipality Central Market.
