Kween District LCV Chairperson Paul Kapchemeiko Majinjaj has directed several district officials to prepare to account for their management of public resources and the performance of their departments.

Majinjaj was speaking as he called on the Chief Finance Officer, District Planner, engineers and other technical officers to be ready for discussions when the Minister for Local Government, Balam Barugahara, visits Kween District this week.

The LCV chairperson also ordered all district government lorries to be parked and stopped from undertaking private contract works.

He said the vehicles should instead be used to work on local government roads, arguing that the district has a road fund meant to support road maintenance.

Majinjaj further directed the district engineer to present details of the road fund, saying there was a need for accountability on how the money had been utilized.

The chairperson also questioned Kween District’s performance, particularly its ranking among districts in the country.

He challenged the District Planner and other officials to explain why Kween had performed poorly, saying the district should not be among the lowest-ranked local governments.

Majinjaj warned officials who may attempt to evade accountability, saying those implicated would still be required to answer questions concerning their departments.

He said the district leadership would continue demanding accountability from finance, planning and technical officials to ensure public resources are properly utilized and service delivery improves.
