A new small-scale irrigation scheme worth 90 million shillings is set to support sorghum production on 157 acres of land in Bumufuni, Bulambuli District.

The project follows the handover of the construction site by AidEnvironment under the Elgon Pamoja Partnership, with support from Uganda Breweries Limited.

The irrigation scheme is expected to strengthen agricultural production by improving access to water for sorghum farmers, potentially reducing their dependence on rainfall and helping them sustain crop production during dry periods.

The initiative comes at a time when improved agricultural practices and reliable water sources remain important in boosting farmers’ productivity and resilience to changing weather conditions.

Once completed, the scheme is expected to benefit sorghum cultivation across the targeted 157 acres, contributing to improved farming activities and livelihoods in the area.
