Renovation works at Bukwo General Hospital have reached more than 95 per cent completion, with the facility expected to resume full operations following its official commissioning scheduled for Thursday.

Dr Sawani, a medical officer at Bukwo General Hospital, revealed this during an interview with a Radio 9FM journalist, saying the remaining works include final adjustments to internal doors and completion of the plumbing system.

Dr Sawani said road works are also underway to improve access to the hospital’s outpatient department and admission areas, making it easier for patients and other users to reach the facility.

He explained that following the commissioning, hospital management will determine when to transfer patients back from Kwirwot Health Centre III, where services were temporarily relocated during the renovation period.

However, Dr Sawani warned that the hospital’s existing infrastructure will remain inadequate to meet the growing demand for health services, even after the renovation.

He expressed hope that the visiting minister would consider upgrading the facility to meet full general hospital standards, including the construction of additional wards and other essential medical units.

Meanwhile, Dr Sawani said health workers at Kwirwot Health Centre III have continued providing essential services despite operating in a facility that was not originally designed to handle the full range of hospital services.

He noted that the medical team had improvised to perform selected procedures, including caesarean sections for expectant mothers with complications and other minor surgeries.

He added that patient numbers at Kwirwot have been fluctuating, with some patients referred to other health facilities for further management.

The anticipated reopening of Bukwo General Hospital is expected to ease pressure on the temporary facility and improve access to healthcare for residents of Bukwo District and surrounding communities.
