Sebei MPs Pledge Action on Land, Livelihoods After Swearing In

KAPCHORWA/KWEEN – Two MPs from Uganda’s Sebei sub-region have outlined key priorities after taking their oaths today, with land disputes and women’s empowerment high on the list.

Kween MP William Chemonges, now in his second term, saiys his experience will help him tackle long-standing issues in the district. 

Speaking shortly after the swearing in ceremony, Chemonges said he would focus on the displacement of the Benet people from Mount Elgon National Reserve, where many lost accesses to farmland, alongside landslides, insecurity, and outstanding compensation claims.

Kapchorwa District MP, Phillis Chemutai thanked voters for re-electing her and said she would begin by supporting women’s groups and lobbying for government projects to improve livelihoods.

Chemonges represents Kween District while Chemutai represents Kapchorwa District, both within the Sebei sub-region.
