The Chief of Defence Forces and founder of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced changes in the organisation’s leadership, replacing Kasambya County Member of Parliament David Kabanda as Secretary General with Tingey County MP Fadil Twalla.
The leadership changes were announced through Gen Muhoozi’s official X account, confirming an immediate transition and commending Kabanda for his service to the organisation over the past three years.
He also directed the PLU leadership to organise a formal handover ceremony as soon as possible, with all senior officials expected to attend.

In the same communication, Muhoozi signalled broader adjustments within the PLU leadership structure while retaining several key figures in the organisation’s hierarchy.
He confirmed that Michael Nuwagira will remain the National Vice Chairperson, while Edwin Karugire, Michael Mawanda, and Andrew Mwenda will continue serving on the PLU Central Committee.
Kabanda, who served as Secretary General for three years, became widely known for his outspoken political messaging within PLU circles, earning the nickname “Omutume” (the messenger).
The leadership reshuffle comes at a time when the Patriotic League of Uganda continues to expand its political influence amid Uganda’s evolving political landscape.
