Bukwo District Local Government has stepped up preparations for the October 2026 Integrated Child Health Days and Measles-Rubella (MR) Campaign, following a planning and coordination meeting held to harmonize activities ahead of the exercise.
The meeting brought together district leaders, health officials and other stakeholders to plan for effective delivery of integrated health services to communities, particularly children in hard-to-reach areas.
Representing the Chief Administrative Officer, the Clerk to Council described the exercise as a routine but important district activity and called upon the selected teams to demonstrate commitment and sacrifice, including working beyond normal hours when necessary. He assured the meeting of the district’s support once the campaign is officially authorized.
Presenting on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Ms. Asiimwe Allen said the MR vaccination outreaches will be conducted at parish level, in schools and villages.
The October campaign will provide a wide range of services, including Measles-Rubella vaccination for children aged 9 months to 59 months, catch-up vaccination for children under five who may have missed routine antigens, and HPV vaccination for 10-year-old girls both in schools and communities.
Other services will include Vitamin A supplementation, deworming and screening for tuberculosis, malaria, hypertension, diabetes, malnutrition and cancer.
Bukwo District Secretary for Gender, Mrs. Chemutai Violet, welcomed the Ministry of Health’s support, noting that the district has several hard-to-reach areas. She pledged the district’s full cooperation towards the success of the campaign.
The LCV Vice Chairperson also pledged district support, emphasizing that immunizing children is an investment in the human resource of the future. He called for strong stakeholder engagement and urged health teams to address challenges through cooperation.
Closing the meeting, Assistant RDC Mrs. Chemutai Nasta said the district has been given a 95 percent scorecard target to achieve. She urged the teams to approach the exercise with commitment and sacrifice despite resource constraints.
District authorities are now calling upon VHTs, parents, schools, local leaders and other stakeholders to actively mobilize communities and ensure eligible children access the services during the October 2026 campaign.
