The Patriotic League of Uganda, PLU, has handed over a report containing corruption complaints raised during a recent community baraza in Tororo to Minister for Local Government Hon. Balaam Barugahara for further action.
PLU General Secretary Hon. Fadil Twalla said the organisation is committed to acting as a whistleblower on corruption and promised that complaints raised by citizens would not be left unattended.
Twalla said the report contains allegations concerning corruption and poor service delivery in Tororo, which he wants subjected to further scrutiny by the State House Anti-Corruption Team.
According to Twalla, the concerns raised during the baraza included alleged irregularities involving government jobs, road works and the supply of solar lights, among other issues.
He said previous interventions following the Tororo engagements had resulted in the interdiction of several government officials, although the specific allegations still require investigation and verification by the relevant authorities.
Receiving the report, Minister Balaam Barugahara thanked Twalla and the PLU team for their work, saying the government would continue pursuing cases of alleged corruption and ensuring that complaints raised by citizens receive attention.
The development comes as PLU continues its grassroots community barazas, which have been used to collect public complaints on corruption, accountability and service delivery. Recent reports have also documented the organisation’s anti-corruption activities in Tororo.
Twalla also reiterated his political support for PLU Chairman General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, saying he believes Muhoozi should succeed President Yoweri Museveni.
The statements were made during an engagement between Twalla and Minister Barugahara following the Tororo baraza.
