Bukwo District T’oo County Member of Parliament Hon. Kiti Peter has called on government to urgently consider Sebei Region in the next phase of compensation for communities affected by past rebel activities, cattle raids and displacement.

Speaking in Parliament today, Kiti said Sebei was among the regions that suffered significant effects from insecurity involving rebel groups, as well as cattle raiders from Karamoja and the Pokot community.

The legislator particularly pointed to the activities of the Alice Lakwena rebellion, saying Sebei was badly affected when the rebellion reached the region before eventually moving into Kenya.

According to Kiti, the historical displacement and insecurity contributed to some of the current land-related challenges being experienced in Sebei, particularly in Kween and other parts of the region.

He appealed to government to give Sebei Region urgent consideration in the next phase of compensation for affected communities.

Kiti also recalled a previous visit by President Yoweri Museveni to the region, during which residents questioned why Sebei had not been included among areas considered for compensation.

The MP said the President responded that Sebei MPs had not raised the matter sufficiently.

Kiti emphasized that many victims continue to live with injuries and the effects of past conflicts, urging Parliament and government to address their concerns.

He concluded his appeal with a personal warning, saying he did not want to find himself injured in the next election—a remark that drew attention to the continuing sensitivity of the issue among affected communities.
