Deputy RDC Bukwo urges Tax compliance after URA operation turns chaotic

Bukwo Deputy Resident District commissioner Mr .Carsons Martin Basalirwa has called on residents and traders to comply with tax obligations following a pre-dawn Uganda Revenue authority URA operation that ended with gunshots being fired in the wee hours of the morning.

The Operation carried out today June 19th targeted businesses suspected of evading tax and dealing in smuggled goods.

URA officers were met with resistance from some traders in Bukwo town prompting them to fire warning shots into the air to disperse the crowd. No injuries were reported

Speaking to the media. Deputy RDC condemned the evasion tactics and warned against obstructing government revenue teams and also urged the URA officers to conduct public barazas to educate the masses on tax compliance’

URA has recently intensified enforcement in Border districts like Bukwo to curb smuggling and increase domestic revenue collection.
